Outdoor play provides endless opportunities for exploration, creativity and teamwork.
In our outdoor areas at Banana Moon Kempston, the children have access to a variety of loose parts, including items such as guttering, crates and cable wheels. These open-ended resources allow children to create their own games and experiment with different ideas.
Recently, the children worked together to use these materials to create their own rainwater track, carefully arranging the pieces to guide the water along their chosen path.
Activities like this encourage children to collaborate, problem-solve and communicate with one another while exploring their ideas through hands-on play.
This type of experience reflects our approach to Learning Through Play, which is embedded across our bespoke curriculum. Loose parts play supports a wide range of developmental skills, including imagination, teamwork and communication.
Within our Early Learning and Development Programme, activities like this help children to:
- Enjoy exploring outdoor environments
- Choose resources independently to represent their ideas
- Work cooperatively with other children during play
Child-led activities like these give children the freedom to explore, experiment and discover new ways of learning together.
Great — these also translate nicely into Kempston-style website articles. I kept the same tone used on their site: informative, warm, and linked to learning and development.
