St David’s Day Celebrations at Banana Moon Kempston

St David’s Day Celebrations at Banana Moon Kempston

At Banana Moon Kempston, our Full Moons enjoyed learning about St David’s Day, the national day of Wales. As part of the celebrations, the children explored the national flower of Wales — the daffodil.

The children had the opportunity to observe real daffodils up close, noticing their shape, colour and delicate petals. Using these observations, they created their own drawings inspired by the flowers.

Activities like this encourage children to slow down and carefully observe the world around them. Observational drawing also supports the development of fine motor skills, concentration and creativity, all of which are important foundations for early writing and artistic expression.

Exploring seasonal events and cultural celebrations also helps children learn about the wider world while building curiosity and confidence through hands-on learning.
